The portrayal of Rizwan's childhood is wonderful.
The memory of his mother follows him always, and it's easy to see why. This is so overly general yet so very true. He has Asperger's Syndrome, he's different, he's naive, he takes every word literally, but he is intelligent and talented, and his perception of life is as his beloved mother taught him: the world includes only two groups of people - good people who do good and bad people who do bad. That's where our hero, Rizwan Khan, is thrown. This part of the film is unpleasant viewing even though it is one-sided and not entirely credible. The result of this tragic incident made the lives of so many of them miserable.
All these contrasting terms intelligently swap places through the story of innocent civilians accused for no fault of their own post the 9/11 attacks. The film is traditionally a love story more than anything else, but the ever relevant message behind it is wonderfully conveyed through such terms as innocence and guilt, kindness and inhumanity, truth and untruth, justice and injustice, love and hate. The film does get sentimental at places, but it never goes over-the-top like Johar's other films and remains fairly restrained and completely authentic, which makes the emotional impact on the viewer much stronger. The film is thoroughly entertaining and the evident attention Johar paid to the smallest of details is commendable. At times it was difficult to believe it was actually directed by Johar and written by Shibani Bathija, who finally proves considerable talent as a writer. Johar, not a particularly good director, seems to have learnt a lot from the feedback he must have got for his previous films. The music by Vishal-Shekhar is soothing but only a few tracks like 'Slow Motion', 'Chashni', 'Zinda' and 'Aithey Aa' are your takeaways from the album.ĭid Bharat find his father and sister Gudiya at the end? To know that, book your tickets asap.My Name Is Khan is without a doubt Karan Johar's most accomplished work to date - powerful, moving and involving. Sizzling beauty Disha Patani finds a small role and makes the most of it. Veteran actor Satish Kaushik is seen in a cameo yet he manages to tickle the funny bones like a pro. Although we wish he got a little more screen time. 'Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai' actor Aasif Sheikh fits in his super comic style and his timing is just perfect.

Salman's look from a 20-year-old to a 70-year-old man trying to live a full life with his family which has now grown with several kids calling him mama dadu cuts a perfect picture for the family entertainer.īut mind you, he's Salman, so he can kick, punch and do the unthinkable at 70. He has kept the essence of the plot intact. The film is based on 2014 South Korean drama 'Ode To My Father' by Yoon-Je-Kyoon which was widely appreciated in the country for invoking emotions and touching the right chords.Īli has tried his best to incorporate the same in 'Bharat' while adapting the plot to the Indian context. In between all of this, Salman finds his best friend in Sunil Grover aka Vilayati, who stays with him throughout his tumultuous journey in the movie. They move to their aunt (Bua's house) and manage her store. Salman as Bharat tries to keep his family together in all times of crises.
The whole premise of the 'Bharat', the film is built on this one promise which a father makes to his son. He promises to be back with Gudiya and that's what stays with the young Bharat forever. He rushes to board the last train from Mirpur in Pakistan to New Delhi refugee camp in India along with his family but somehow in the huge crowd of migrants, his daughter Gudiya is left behind.īauji loads young Bharat with the responsibility of playing the guardian of his mother and siblings in his absence. Jackie aka Bauji realises it's too late for the situation to normalise. However, it lasts only a dialogue as soon we are shown how ruthlessly innocent lives were killed in the name of religion.
